When
deciding on a product to redesign, I looked for an existing product that stuck
out in a bad way. Prudence Corned Beef Hash had a look that I felt needed some
updating. The first thing that needed to be changed was the wood paneling background
which gave the product a back-woods feel. The text was centered on plaque-like
white shapes, reminiscent of animal trophies hanging on a wall. I removed the
wood background and opened it up by keeping it white. In addition, I tried some
solid color and texture. The existing picture was a generic shot of corned beef
hash with two eggs and a dried piece of parsley. I reshot the hash using a fresh
piece of lemon and lettuce, complemented by a backdrop of blues and purples.
I also experimented with using type only, without a picture. Lets face it, corned
beef hash isn't exactly the best looking stuff around. The rest of the text
basically stayed the same, but with a new fresh image and a cleaner layout.
Prudence now feels as if it can be for anyone, not just your friendly neighborhood
lumberjack.
