The existing package (bottle and label) suggests a low-to-mid quality olive oil. Specific design problems include bottle shape and use of typography. The color choice, green and gold, is typical of many olive oil packages. Overall the design looks dated and is in need of improvement. There-design is intended to suggest a higher quality olive oil that is possibly imported and more expensive. The first step in re-designing the package was choosing the bottle. The existing bottle is short and stout. The bottles I chose are taller and slimmer. I feel the taller, elongated bottles suggest quality more efficiently. Next, I designed the labels. The square label on the tall cylindrical bottle is one of the final designs. The contrasting shapes help the overall design. Also contributing is the color choice and use of typography. The red label was the last design, and my favorite. I created a logo for Carrara, and ran the type (olive oil) vertically. The typeface (Bickley Script) was a good choice and fits nicely with the design.
